Ōkunoshima (大久野島?) is a small island located in the Inland Sea of Japan in the city of Takehara, Hiroshima Prefecture. It is accessible by ferry from Tadanoumi and Ōmishima. There are campsites, walking trails and places of historical interest on the island. It is often called Usagi Jima (うさぎ島?, "Rabbit Island") because of the numerous feral rabbits that roam the island; they are rather tame and will approach humans. You keep posting about interesting things and places I know nothing about. I keep learning other things about those places which you didn't mention. In the case of Ōkunoshima it's the gigantic 226 meter power transmission tower. There doesn't seem to be any GSV on the island yet, but I went searching for it on both connection sides. The Seto Naikai has fascinated me ever since I saw a documentary film narrated by Donald Ritchie (although I've never read his famous book about it). On my bucket list is to ride the ferry from Kobe to Kyushu. Everybody I know thinks I'm crazy, and the ferry only makes the trip in daylight hour once a year, so maybe I ought to just come down here and cruse around from island to island on local ferry boats. The icon is from a placemark I made (but never posted) on Hill Top Farm. It seemed appropriate to recycle on this occasion.
