Rosemayer (1909 - 1938) was a world-famous driver, competing in the Auto Union rear engined racing cars of the 1930's. These cars were notoriously difficult to drive and Rosemayer was one of the few drivers to master them. In a modified version of the car Rosemayer made an attempt on the land speed record, at the same time as Mercedes-Benz was after the same record which stood at 432 km/h. These record attempts were caried out on the Frankfurt-Darmstadt autobahn. For unclear reasons Rosemayer crashed, the car was wrecked and he was killed. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernd_RosemeyerFor a long and highly detailed account of the accident see: www.kolumbus.fi/leif.snellman/zana.htmThe Death of Bernd Rosemayer racing driver..kmz (1.1 KB)
