While watching a documentary on Chernobyl I noticed a large antenna array in the background of one of the shots. This led to some research which, in turn, led to the 'Russian Woodpecker'. This was a Russian military over-the -horizon ABM radar which was active between 1976 and 1989. It trackecd targets by bouncing signals off the ionoshere and operated at very high power levels. (10 MW). The curious name comes from the sounds that it made on many communication devices world-wide (including Radio Moscow). (I apologise for the extremely wide shot of the sites but Russia is a very large country and they sited the devices to look east and west). For information on 'Woodpecker' and it's sound: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duga_radargood drone footage of antenna array The Russian Woodpecker..kmz (2.08 KB)
