If this would be a starting of a series, listing victims of urban development, than I should give subtitle for this first posting of mine: One: Two Tree sorry, subject not as funny as funny-boy I think I am, so let me share my first contribution instead: Two Sophora japonica (cca. 1,5 meters trunk diameter) was been cut few days ago by the occasion of new Tram-Train line constructions. Check the 7 years younger trees alive on GMapsSV (imagery date 2011) and the bigger, cut one on my photo taken this morning. well, I am not an expert in Dendrochronology, but at least 60 growth rings can be count. *** EDIT: way back in time I have made two other individual postings on this sad topic of (mass) killing (of) trees for one or an other reason, now I have decided to put these postings together in this thread. One is a posting about Borneo mega-clearcuts and another one about deforestation in Northern California.
Well, it seems, even if I did not want it, ending I have made my own Deforestation thread here on board...! (:

glad to see you around tree expert! -have some questions:
what you think how old were these? a local man also been hanged around told me, these were 'at least 150 years old'
and another one: why does it stink so much? I have collected a bigger piece on site and I just could not stand its smell even in the outhouse.
I have read it has a 'special smell', but that stinks! -can it be caused by some fly larvae from just below the crust, been smashed all over with the chainsaw? -or simply the smell of this kind of raw-wood?

yes I'd say just about 150 years.
I never heard of Sophora stinking. But if it does it's probably the bark or wood and not an insect. Oaks produce a toxin which prevents other plants from growing at the base; ginkgo fruits smell like old worn socks.

hey! thanks for instant response! thats all clear now. and here you are a last one surprise, our old cut buddy held for us: I have never seen such before, that wild bee nests so deep inside the tree: (photographed today morning as workers piled the 'material') so not only the giants are dead, but few thousands of little chaps also have to look for another site to live in... (however this seems quite abandoned recently) *** EDIT: I took a piece of the comb(-system) and in hope of some further ID I have measured cell diameter. (D = 5 millimeters). btw, it not stinks at all: I keep it locked in my office cabinet and every time I open its door honey and heavy scent of wildflower odor bursts out! (:
only now I feel so annoyed that I have been such late from work in the morning that I had no time to search for corpse of the species! -the piece I have taken was empty. ):
now, as been there again have noticed: meanwhile someone has made the whole cavern-system totally empty! there were even more bigger trunk pieces full of combs so I estimate the weight of the bee-wax this tree could contain to a min. of 50 kilograms. ...and if we exchange it to number of candles or some other "new-age healthcare products" one can made out of it, now that starts to sound a good deal! 0:

tarnsport trucks and loading equipment appeared today morning on the "killing fields". I think the time has come, we have to say a last goodbye to the remains of our big friends with this last one shot:

No placemark needed - sad, this also easily can be spotted in Argentina. Read nasa-eo article and check my GE screenies, illustrating cover changes between 1987 and 2016, alas 30 years of "dendrocide": [slide captionposition="1" wrapperstyle="padding:10px 0;border-top:2px solid #eee;border-bottom:2px solid #eee;"]https://res.cloudinary.com/syzygy/image/upload/v1589956711/deforest.gran.chaco.1987_nepebt.jpg 1987 res.cloudinary.com/syzygy/image/upload/v1589956711/deforest.gran.chaco.2016_uxttpq.jpg2016[/slide] *** Original post and title has been edited.
