Hint: Looks like that village is on to a very steep hill... how do you think its 12 inhabitants can get up/down there?

2nd Hint: The village we are talking about, is named "La città che muore" by the locals.

Thanks for the answer. You wouldn't believe how many villages in the world have 12 inhabitants. And now that I know what this place is, I still don't know how to find it without a clue. As always, I think I've tried everything, but obviously I haven't.

As always, I think I've tried everything, but obviously I haven't. Only for johnluke: The 12 inhabitants are just a marginal information, that is not part of the stuff that makes that place unique in the world. Now you know what place that is, and you can understand what I am talking about. And that is visible on the puzzle picture Not saying that was easy anyway.

Now you know what place that is, and you can understand what I am talking about. And that is visible on the puzzle picture Not saying that was easy anyway. Yes, I now realise that. I had seen that little thing to the right of the village and wondered about it. I thought it was some kind of aerial cable car line, and your clue saying "how do you think they can get to the village" kind of confirmed it in my mind. Now that I know what it really is (and it is something very unusual you have to admit) I just made the search in Google using the right words and it works: 1st result is the village. So I'm happy now, I know how I could have found it. But including the 12 inhabitants as a red herring in the clue was a bit harsh.

Solution: In the background, you can see a village on a steep hill, and something looking like a bridge on its right side that connects to it. You can also observe the rocks in the landscape. We have badlands everywhere, except right below the village, where there is a much stronger rock (you can see it's much less weathered in comparison with the rocks around) called tuff. This litological setup is very typical of the central Italy. Plus, I am from the center of Italy and that should have been an additional clue. Some searches on Google included: "Central Italy village bridge" on Google Image, first result. "Village Italy bridge" on Google Image, third result. Even if you didn't understand it is Italy, there were some keywords to get to the place, for example: "Village accessible by bridge" on Google Image, there are 2 correct results out of the first 10. And so on... The place is called Civita di Bagnoregio, it has 12 inhabitants and it is connected with the land only by a pedestrian bridge. After finding the place, just look at the compass in my picture and find the road from where the photo was taken, which is some km NW from the bridge. It was hard, I know that. Congratulations to those who did it!

Finally, after your last post .... Google Earth image This puzzle is a good example of the difference between GE and GM. I use GM most of the time, and could not find the place. With GE and your last post, BINGO, I found it! A very interesting village. Thanks for posting it. Google Maps image - finally, after a lot of effort.
