Been having a play - will take a minute or two to get used to it. Found areas where the blue lines match up to GM (there being more than in GE) and orange dots that work Guess I'll be using both for a while.

thanks for the info! interesting! but, so far, it works only with chrome (and i'm a firefox guy!)! it means, the GE software won't be updated/supported anymore?!? (the blog does not say anything about this...)

Hi krenek, to quote from the FAQ linked above: Why is the web version Chrome only? New Earth runs on Native Client, which is a Chrome only technology. We are monitoring the evolution of asm.js and WASM for cross-browser support. What will happen with the classic desktop Earth? The Classic Earth Desktop Client is not going away and will still be available for use.

whoa! -of course they had free sources for the creation of such brilliant toy again!
and that is where user content from new forum will appear one day? (: or should we restart to build a new layer for Desktop Client? (:
sorry, I smell some Renewed Community Layer everywhere since they have frozen oGEC and now as have seen this.
*** and only one question: why is good for me to be logged in? for sharing functions?

Hello everyone.😊 Anybody else playing with the mobile version? Not as many functions but awesome looking and fast 3D rendering which used to take forever on my S6 Android.👍 What I really want is to be able to make collections look like the knowledge cards. That would be cool.😎 It's pretty bare bones atm but the potential is huge. It's also proof that GE is not only alive but moving forward under it's own steam.🚂

Hi hhgygy,
Please try again. The developers have been watching all the problems and applying patches on the fly. It works for me on an eight year old laptop w/Windows 10. I've tried it in 32-bit, 64-bit and canary versions of Chrome. I can't see the borders or roads but I've reported it and if there's not a fix, I expect an explanation even if it's "your software is too old"!!
If you want to see a community for the new Earth, the best way may be to build one in Google+. I don't know if doing that should be a user built community or with cooperation from Google. I think it would be great to have the ability to placemark interesting locations again for all to see. I know the problems that causes too. I'm not a G+ enthusiast but that's Google's preference, at least for now. Google just had an unpleasant experience with hackers in Map Maker. Bad enough they shut it down.
At the moment, the best way to recommend any features is to use feedback in menu. I'm not an organizer and these are just observations.

Maybe this website is optimised for Windows 10? I am still using Win 7.

Hhgygy, it could be your graphics card in your laptop that is making the Web Base Googhle Earth to crash. You could update the drivers, but unfortunately you can't upgrade the graphics card since that is built-in to the motherboard. If you have a desktop, you could try it on there, to see if you have better results.

I used to read the forums here, see a .kmz file and just click on it and go right there to see it. In playing with the new web-based version, it seems now I have to copy/dl the link and import it before I can see it. And then of course those links will all have to be deleted. That seems to be a lot of trouble just to have a quick look at something. Is this the way it is now, no more just clicking on the .kmz for a look?

No, you can still just click on the file, and GE will open if installed as before.

Just for the record: The web based (or browser based) GE has never worked for me ever since it has been launched. In the meantime I reinstalled my entire Windows 7 system and all programs but it crashed instantly on Chrome on first launch. I have a 6 year old Fujitsu Lifebook A531 laptop with HD Graphics 3000 on-board graphics card, running Windows 7 Home 64-bit. I would welcome any idea...

Heureka, the web based GE seems to work faultlessly under the brand new Chrome 64.0 engine. Touch wood!

W/the desktop version it was easy to determine the date of the satellite imagery but with the Web version? 1) how does one do that w/Web? (not displayed on image itself that I can see or right-click on). 2) of special interest at the moment is the vicinity of Hurricane Michael's landfall. Google Earth folks working on that? I grew up there and we have some vacant family land that I want to see post-hurricane to see the toll it took on the trees. NOAA has a page with some imagery but ours is outside what they posted. Thanks!
