In places like the NNSS, around {37.15, -116.05}, for each nuclear test, there are at least three placemarks with varying degrees of information and accuracy. Is there any hope of solving this problem? Is there any procedure to get posts removed on the server? If not, how about a filter on the client side that would eliminate posts by thread number or user/date? Can I download a layer, edit it myself (probably having to split it up geographically because of size), and load it locally?
This is just an example – other large datasets, like airports, exhibit the problem as well, where GEC posts duplicate not only other posts, but other layers.
There's a lot of value in the GEC layer – I'm just looking for a more "harmonious" overall result.

Hi am909, It's great to hear that someone is still looking at the GEC Layer! Duplication was always a problem, with people honor bound not to duplicate placemarks, unless the duplication was a significant improvement. There always were, however, many people who logged in once, made a submission, and never came back again. Before submissions to the GEC Layer was locked, the moderators where given some time to look for submissions that should be deleted, but that of course was an impossible task. All of your suggestions seem desirable, but unfortunately none of them seem to me to be very likely of every finding fruition. I may be overly pessimistic, but the next change I expect to see in the GEC Layer (actually, I hope I don't live to see it) is its being dropped from the Layers. I like to keep a copy of the GEC Layer in My Places, so I don't have sort through Gallery every time I want to use it. I'm attaching the Layer Network Link File, it you'd like to download and save it.
