Dromore Viaduct Situated in Dromore Park and visible from the A1 dual carriageway stands a 74ft Victorian viaduct which once carried the GNRI railway across the River Lagan. The GNRI railway was one of the largest Irish railway companies formed from the amalgamation of several smaller companies providing a rail link between Belfast and Dublin. The viaduct consists of seven wide brick built arches on tall tapered pylons of rock finished stone. The upper part of the viaduct is constructed of random black stone blocks, topped by a coping of granite slabs. It is believed that the bridge which carried the branch railway line might have been designed by distinguished architect Thomas Jackson, who is also said to have designed the nearby station house which is now the Old Station Nursery. Although the railway closed in 1956 and no longer carries the railway line, it is a popular attraction for dare devils who abseil down the viaduct. It is a well-known town landmark appearing on postcards and book covers.
